How to set up the WordPress donation form plugin?

The WP-Whydonate plugin puts a WhyDonate donation form on your WordPress site. You install the plugin, connect it to your WhyDonate account with an API key, create a widget and place that widget's HTML code on a page or post.

1. Install the WordPress plugin

1. Find the WP-Whydonate plugin in the New plugin menu and click Install now.
2. Activate the plugin via the Plugins menu in WordPress.

The plugin then appears in the left menu in WordPress.

2. Connect to your WhyDonate account

1. Click WhyDonate in the left menu.
2. Click my account to set up your WhyDonate account.

If you already have a WhyDonate account: open your API key page — in the dashboard menu it is Integration then API Key. Switch on Activate API Key and copy the key and copy-paste it to the bottom of this page. After setting up your account, your fundraisers from the WhyDonate platform are accessible in the plugin.

If you do not have a WhyDonate account yet: register for free. Then open your API key page, found under Integration then API Key, switch on Activate API Key and copy the key to the bottom of this page.

3. Create a widget

1. Log in and click WhyDonate in the left menu, then Donation forms.
2. Click Create Widget and select your fundraiser. The button stays disabled until you have created at least one fundraiser.
3. Click Save.

Each widget has a style and a fundraiser associated with it. You can create multiple widgets for different fundraisers or with different styles.

4. Add the widget to your WordPress website

Place the widget's HTML code on the page or post where you want the donation button. You find the HTML code of each widget under WhyDonate > Widgets.

Note: you can also create widgets without having a fundraiser at WhyDonate.

Tip: we encourage you to create campaigns as fundraisers, because fundraisers created via the website receive greater visibility, which increases your chances of receiving donations.
