WhyDonate charges no sign-up fee, no monthly costs and no platform fee on one-time donations. What is deducted from a donation is the fee our payment provider charges for processing it. Recurring donations are the exception: from the second payment onward, WhyDonate charges a 3% platform commission, explained below.

When the cost can be higher
In rare cases the transaction cost is a little higher because of the payment method used. A donation paid in a different currency, or with a non-EU or business credit card, can cost more to process.
The donor tip, and when 3% applies
To keep the platform free, donors are asked for a voluntary tip when they give. The tip is optional for the donor, and it is what funds WhyDonate instead of a platform fee.
Where no tip is collected, WhyDonate charges a 3% platform commission instead:
- on every payment of a recurring donation after the first, because the tip is collected only once — see how fees work on recurring donations;
- on fundraisers that have the tip option switched off.
Organizers cannot switch the tip option off on their donation forms. Fundraisers that already have this setting keep it, but it cannot be changed — not on existing forms, not on new ones, and not on embedded forms.
