The average service dog costs are between €25,000 and €40,000. Health insurers only reimburse if you have a physical disability, such as a visual impairment. This does not apply to people who need assistance dogs for PTSD, autism or other mental illness.
Types include ADA (or ADL) service dogs, epilepsy dogs, autism service dogs, PTSD service dogs, psychiatric service dogs, and diabetes service dogs, each trained to support a specific need.
You cannot request all types of assistance dogs from a single organization. In the Netherlands, organizations such as Hulphond Nederland, KNGF Geleidehonden, Hulphonden voor Autisme and Stichting Kibo each handle applications for specific types of service dogs.
