Recurring donations
The donor tip is only collected on the first payment of a recurring series. From the second payment onward no tip is collected, so a 3% platform commission applies to each subsequent payment. The first payment is 0% when the tip option is enabled, and 3% when it is disabled.

No FX fee applies to donations in the currencies below. For every other currency Stripe charges a 1% FX fee to convert the money into your local currency.

The platform runs on an optional donor tip
WhyDonate takes no cut of your donations. Instead, donors are asked whether they want to add a small voluntary tip to support the platform when they give.
The tip is always optional and separate from the donation. Donors choose the amount themselves, and it never comes out of what you raise.

Worked example: a single €50 donation — the same amount as the calculator above. WhyDonate's row uses the Kreditná a debetná karta rate for Slovensko; other platforms use their published rates as of July 2026, including VAT where applicable. Where a platform does not publish its processing rate, only the platform fee is counted and the row is marked with a +, so its real cost is higher than shown. Trustpilot scores are the public TrustScore at time of writing; a dash means the platform has no comparable Trustpilot profile.
Questions about fees
Nothing to start and nothing per month. WhyDonate charges a 0% platform fee, no sign-up fee, and no subscription. The only cost is payment processing, which our payment provider charges and we pass on at cost.
The donor tip that funds the 0% model is only collected once, on the first payment of a recurring series.
First payment: 0% platform commission if the organizer has the tip option enabled, 3% if it is disabled.
Every payment after that: no tip is collected — regardless of the original tip setting — so a 3% platform commission applies to each subsequent payment.

Payment providers price each currency and payment method differently. Local bank-based methods are usually the cheapest: iDEAL and Bancontact cost a flat €0,35 with no percentage, while card payments in euros cost 1,9% + €0,25. We pass these rates on without a markup, so the fee you see depends on how your donors pay.
In rare cases, yes. A donation made in a different currency, or paid with a non-EU or business credit card, can carry a higher cost from the payment provider. You can see the exact processing cost and commission for every transaction in your dashboard under the donations tab.
No. The tip is voluntary and the donor can set it to zero. It is added on top of the donation, so it never reduces the amount your cause receives. The tip option itself can no longer be removed from donation forms; fundraisers that already had it disabled keep that setting.
You can request an immediate payout, or leave it to the automatic weekly or monthly payout. There is no withdrawal fee. See when donations are paid out in the helpdesk.
